Paraguay beat Chile to secure their spot in the quarterfinals as they moved into second place in Group A of the 2021 Copa America.
Paraguay won 2-0 thanks to goals from Braian Samudio and Miguel Almiron in a game that they needed at least a draw to qualify for the quarterfinals.
This result has sealed the top four from Group A of the 2021 CONMEBOL Copa America. Bolivia have been eliminated without even kicking off their final game against group leaders Argentina.
They will be fighting for nothing but pride in their final group stage match as Argentina will look to end on a high going into the knockout stages.
Miguel Almiron was the star of the show as he not only scored Paraguay’s second goal but also assisted the first.
Samudio opened the scoring after 33 minutes in a game that Chile struggled to establish any sort of rhythm in. Almiron sent in a teasing cross that Samudio pounced on from a corner kick to give them the lead.
Almiron then converted from the spot in the 58th minute to put the result to bed.
Paraguay are now just a point behind Argentina in Group A of the 2021 Copa America. They just need to avoid defeat against Uruguay to ensure a second-place finish in the group.
